I am curious on how others are setting their user profiles.  I "played" around with this feature today and set mine as follows:

  • User 1 - set for auto WB and renamed AutoWB.
  • User 2 - set for tungsten lighting at home and renamed Tungsten
  • User 3 - Set for fluorescent lighting warm and renamed FluoWarm
  • User 4 - set for sunny day outdoor and renamed DayLight

I’m still playing around with my specific settings.  Currently set as:

User 1 - “General”. Auto ISO. DNG(L) +JEPG(M). Single shot. Highlight metering. Previously had been multi-field metering (and before that centre weighted) but I’m testing the more modern metering  Used in aperture priority mode

User 2 - “B+W”. As above but JPEG is, you guessed it, in black and white. Previously had been on Continuous-low drive mode but I can’t manage only to take one shot by pressing the shutter button gently so I’ve reverted to single shot. This means it’s a duplicate of the above so I might delete one of them

User 3 - “Infra-red”. DNG(L) and JPEG(L) black and white. Manual ISO.  Single shot with 2 sec delay timer. Highlight metering. Spirt level display activated. Intended to be full manual - I just need to remember to take the shutter speed dial off auto. This is a generic tripod user profile but I only really use tripods for infra-red work

why are you using profiles just for WB?

Profiles are more functional with a collection of settings.

I would not set a profile if it is still one button away to change the WB on the screen.

If you change other setting from your user profile 1 to user profile 2 just for WB, it will take you back to base settings, like screen preview, magnification position, exp comp.

Too personal to be interesting i guess but i do use those profiles a lot.
Mainly 2, 5 and 6.
FWIW
Profile 1: 60mp + auto iso M mode + e-shutter + single shot drive
Profile 2: 60mp + auto iso M mode + mech shutter + single shot drive
Profile 3: 60mp + auto iso M mode + mech shutter + continuous drive
Profile 4: 36mp + auto iso M mode + mech shutter + single shot drive
Profile 5: ditto 2 + focus peaking
Profile 6: ditto 2 + 90/4 macro

Good point, noted and thank you. But I did include in the profiles - auto ISO limit at 6400, single shot, exposure compensation at +1/3, multi field metering.

Perhaps, overtime, I shall expand the differences, serving a variety of uses for different situations.

Definitely not using mine for just white balance as that is as easy to select as a profile. Instead mine are:

- General shooting

- Action (as much as I ever do on a Keica)

- Tripod/landscape

- B&W mode

My profiles vary things like what info is presented in the screen (composition aids, focus peaking, etc), single or multi shot drive, metering mode, exposure preview on “M” mode (for strobe use), etc.

I've got the idea and thank you; perhaps I should start building profiles for:

  • Street photography
  • Landscape
