Visited Swaddywell Nature Reserve Peterborough UK 28 August 2022 intending to photograph Bank Voles under the bird feeders but none showed up — so photographed the birds scavenging under the feeders e.g. a fine looking female House Sparrow which was almost next to my feet. Leica CL / Sigma 105mm Macro L mount  ISO 1600 f5.6  1/320 .... Recently acquired 'new' CL and so far very pleased with it. Light was dull / cloudy

Thank you fro the +ve comments. This is probably the same House Sparrow foraging behind the bird feeders where I'd scattered some seeds and nuts

These are very nice images. Thanks

Perhaps not as showy as other birds but beautiful nevertheless. Here in the city they are our hardy faithful friends. They are with us year round and throughout the worst of winters. They are voracious and go through our seeds at an extreme rate. When they've finished their own they attack the suet, oily sunflower seeds and raisin bread intended for the other birds. Only then do we see them foraging on the ground as in your photos for the seeds that have fallen to the ground from the feeders during their feeding frenzies.
