AZD Posted August 27, 2022 Share #23 Posted August 27, 2022 FP4+ is fantastic. It’s hard to mess up short of catastrophic user error. It seems to continuously add density in the highlights without blocking up. Whether your scanning or printing process can resolve that detail is a different question. A few times I have looked at medium format FP4 negatives coming out of the fixer with awe. It reminds me of looking at a good slide film. In any case, I highly recommend it. It’s a classic. For a similar look but a little more grain and halation, Kentmere 100 is very nice. I may actually prefer it to FP4. With Rodinal the grain is fine, even, and beautiful. More like part of the image than a distraction. I’m amazed at how well it resolves fine detail even in 35mm. For another variation, Ortho 80 performs a lot like FP4 without red sensitivity. Same tendency to continue building density. I think this film is far more useful and flexible than most would assume. Forget about “not good for skin and blue skies” and just go for it. 2
