Should I sell my M7 now?

Give it a few months and see if you've used it. If you haven't, and don't think you will, then think about selling it.

After saying that, I haven't used my M6 since I bought an M8, but I can't force myself to sell it. Too many memories, and I keep telling myself that it's been sued so much that I wouldn't get much for it.

OK,

Here's the dilemma, now I've got the M8 ( sorry credit card!) do I get rid of my M7???.....

It is a dilemma, of course - but I do not think the price will go up! So if you have decided that you will not be using it anymore, sell it as soon as possible - it will decrease in price as soon as it gets out of the market as a new item.

I don't think so...

Unless you need the money, why not just take out the batteries, cock the shutter and put it in a box with some silica gel?

There are an awful lot of people who seem to have gone digital then gone back to film, partially or completely, me included.

Regards,

Bill

I agree with Bill. If I were you, and if I were able to afford to keep both, I would do so. I find that I shoot both film and digital, depending on the situation, and am glad I have my two M6's, one black, one chrome (typically loaded with different speed films). Besides, the M7 could always serve as your back-up machine.

Have you tried shooting them together? I really enjoy covering events with the M8+M7. They share the same AE and shutter direction and handle similarly. (Especially using a winder on the M7). I am a film novice, having shot only digital I found the RF experience so compelling with the M8 that I added an M7. I generally leave a 50mm on the M7, shooting XP2 for easily scanned B+W images. I shoot the M8 generally wider, but also with 75, 90, and 135 lenses. Here's a thread I posted in the film forum about this with a link to some examples. So.... keep the M7 and shoot it, I say! best....Peter

Don't do it unless you have to for financial reasons... While I use 2 M8s for my professional work, I also got an M7 a-la-carte for light wedding work (about 2 rolls of B&W per wedding) but mostly for personal work along with my XPan, Rolleiflex and Leica IIIf.

Hi Steve,

Wow, what did your camera get sued for? <G>

Cheers,

If you can, then keep it.

I put my M6 as a trade-in when I bought the M8, simply because I got a very good price for it, and I didn't think I was going to use it for awhile. But on monday I'm picking up an M2, so there you go! You will only miss the film M...

give it a few months. i sold my M6TTL and totally regret it now.

sold both my 5D and M6TTL because i wasn't touching both of them after the M8. The 5D i'm happy with the decision. i would take out my M8 anyday instead of the 5D for digital photography, but now that i've had the M8 for over six months, i am going back and shooting film time to time, and i don't have my M6 around.

i kept a Hexar RF, so that is my main film camera, but i wish i had the M6 around.

if you are not needing the cash. don't sell it just yet. if you are like me, you will go back to usin film time to time and you will be glad you still have your M7.

They shoot very well together, and if you've got several lenses, having a second body on hand sure beats having to constantly swap lenses.

I shoot my M8 and my Hexar-RF together this way all the time, with the M8 usually bearing whatever focal length I think is going to be my primary approach for the subject.

On the other hand, sometimes, some subjects just seem to lend themselves better to film.

I got an MP .72 in Dec 2005

then an M8 in Nov 2006, been thinking that I would shot less film.

Interesting is, having appreciate very much on M8's image quality, I do tired of sitting too long in front of my computer and keeping giga and giga of digital files. You fire the shutter more, and would not like to let go and delete the mediocre ones. I begin to got the feeling, I don't need 100 pics per week. 36 fine pics every month is already wonderful.

Furthermore, I found the 1.33 still a pity waste of all the legendary leitz glasses, old or new, esp. the 35s and wider ones.

Afterall, film has its many artist advantages sensors are not giving.

So, I just bought my 3rd Leica M, an MP .58 in Sep 2007.

This is my story.
