What does DR stand for in this context?

Dual Range … it’s a mechanical marvel.

Focuses normally from 0.9m to infinity, but if you pull the lens forward and twist it to the left side, you can slide it into the 0.5m - 0.9m range. Hence the nickname of Dual Range.

The supplied goggles correct for parallax AND help with accurate focus from the 0.5-0.9m range.

Optical quality is also top notch. Can’t help but admire the lens.

It was challenging to use on digital M’s - see Andy’s post above ☝️  - but with the changed mount on the M10 and M11, this lens is now fully functional on digital bodies. Hence the rekindled love, and this thread 🎉🍻

I did find this one though, taken the day after I had bought the lens. DoF took care of focus, but I wouldn't risk damaging the M240 by trying it again.

Mine is a 1958 example and it now sits permanently on my 1960 M2 (and therefore never used)

Lovely shot Andy

No plans to add an m10 or m11 to put the lens to use more often?

The DR does not work on my M10-R - does not fit/focus.

Try to  set the focus ring to about 1.5m before mounting and before unmounting the lens.

Or the unit of DR you have is "special".

have a look here ...

Gosh! Whilst I am a great fan of dark, moody, black & white, push-development pictures, this photograph reminds me that analogue pictures can be sparkling and colourful. And from a lens with quite a few years under its belt (through its aperture?)

You Sir, are correct!  Mounts when set to 1.5m.  Able to focus from min distance (normal w/o goggles) to about 30 ft. Cannot focus to infinity hard stop on the lens.

The DR gives lovely results!

Here's a little twist:  I took the 50 Dual Range today for a drive... to the old Leica factory in Midland, Canada.

Always wanted to make the trip, but somehow never got around to it until today.

It was a nice day, and I got some good photos, but not in Midland, LOL.
