I haven't seen the video yet--definitely plan to watch it--but I remember reading once where he said he used to clamber around on stage with *four* Leicas around his neck: two with wide-angle lenses and two with teles, and one of each of those pairs would have color film in it and one would have black and white. Wow! Edited July 9, 2022 by rulnacco

Cobram Posted November 14, 2024 Share #6 Â Posted November 14, 2024 It will be interesting to know which lenses he used for iconic photos. Of course 35 and 50mm Summilux. But I suspect he used also a 90 Summicron and something wider, 28 or 21mm lens. Does anyone know what lenses he used during his time?
caloosajo Posted November 14, 2024 Share #7  Posted November 14, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I read way back he consistently had 28/35/50/90. Wouldn’t surprise me if he rounded it out with a 21mm, but that field of view seemed largely un-/underrepresented in the book Jazz Festival FWIW. adan Posted November 14, 2024 Share #8  Posted November 14, 2024 He use a 21mm for shots like these - often adopted for record-album covers. https://sfae.com/Artists/Jim-Marshall/Jefferson-Airplane-San-Francisco-1967 https://sfae.com/Artists/Jim-Marshall/Jerry-Garcia-Farewell-to-Winterland-Cover-1977-(Wi Note that he used the Schneider-designed 21mm f/3.4 Super-Angulon in that era - with scale-focusing down to 0.4m, even when the rangefinder limits ran out. Otherwise as noted: 28/35/50 - and the very large "stovepipe" 90 Summicron of the 1960-70s (seen under his elbow in post #5) Plus Nikon Fs with 105mm 2.5 and 180mm f/2.8 primes
