LocalHero1953 Posted July 1, 2022 Share #2 Posted July 1, 2022 I remember seeing this as a first year geology student (Edinburgh) at Easter 1972 (though the monument and board were not there at the time). There must be a photographic collection waiting to be made of these geological memorial boards. I camped in a blizzard at Easter 1973 in the shelter of the hillock at the head of Loch Assynt in Sutherland, on which was a monument (even then quite old and weathered) to Ben Peach and John Horne, who unravelled the complexities of what is known as the Assynt Window, an erosion through the Moine Thrust (a fault plane traversing the north west Highlands of Scotland) into the mangled strata below. I tried to make a geological map of part of the same area later that summer, which taught me to have nothing but respect for those C19 geologists.
