The bride washes the groom's feet which is a symbol of a wife's loyalty to her husband.

Note: before entering the house, the groom steps on an egg.

The egg is interpreted as the hope that the bride and groom have offspring which is a sign of love for both. (Wiki)

Notice the curious little girl behind the groom.

Lovely.  I can't recall seeing any similar wedding tradition in any other culture.  The curious little girl adds a great deal to the image.  Great catch.

Thank you Stuart. In the Javanese Culture there is great use of symbolic gestures. And yes, I agree the little girl does give this image a je-ne-sais-quoi.

Regards

Carl

Lovely photo. Just curious, did you use a flash?

Hi Erik. Thanks for your comment. I was a guest at this wedding. A videographer was filming the scene, his assistant lit the scene with portable lights. I do think the light ( it could have been flash) brings out the details and color.
