A nice series indeed, it recalls good memories of my many visits to Kamakura. The film photos really create a nostalgic flair of the scenery. The last two photos show Shinjuki (Isetan Department) store?

Yeh, it's also Ajisai season and since the country was not yet fully open to foreigners, it was not as crowded as before and very enjoyable. Kamakura is really a nice area. I might want to live there when I retire. 😂

The last two were indeed Shinjyuku;. We came back to the city before sunset and had sushi nearby Sanchoumei.

Thank you so much for this beautiful set! I hope the japanese government will re-open the country for individual tourism after the summer elections. After two years I want to see my japanese friends back again and travel the country as much as possible.

One question regarding shooting film in Japan: How did you manage the scanning process at the airports? I mean, did you ask for a manual check of the film? Or was it scanned with the rest of your carry-on luggage?

Thanks a lot😃👋

When I was there I did feel the sentiment of the government is to move toward fully open up in July. June is more like a trial period to test the voters' reaction to more tourists that don't wear masks outside as locals do. If the gov doesn't sense strong pushback from the voters, I'm pretty sure July will be open.

For the films I had them in my checked-in luggage without any special protections, both unexposed and exposed ones. Even Portra400 seemed to be okay. I wouldn't worry to much about it if I were you.

Hope you make it back this summer and do share some photos if you do!

Henry,

Yeh, I'm fully addicted to Portra now, especially 400. Even when under exposed you still get very interesting results out of a professional scanners. I will probably never go back to be shooting color in digital. My M9 has been and will continue to be fully devoted to B&W.

Tks for recommending the facebook group. I'll take a look!

....   Jerry , sorry for the error , it is actually a thread of LUF

...  about the M9 when you convert color to black & white you lose details in the shadows

(I compared when I photographed the M9)

Is that all shot with your Noctilux 50mm f/0.95 @knopfler1976? Beautiful rendering in the photos like the first shot of your friends, the boy at the train crossing, the beach and the bike in the street.

Actually no. While I do use Noctilux as the main lens on my M9, on my M-A with films it's always 28mm Summilux ASPH. This lens has always had surprisingly good capabilities to separate subjects from the background despite being a wide-angle lens. But I think the film grains and its smooth gradation definitely help giving the feeling of nice bokeh.
