I put my Leica Monochrom Type I up for sale, and someone requested to know if the sensor was replaced with a CCid 52 or 53, and gave me a formula to use on the camera to figure this out.  I tried it and it didn't work. What's worse, it seems to have affected the software in the camera.  When I turn the camera off, it won't turn back on unless I remove the battery and reinsert it. Is there a solution, or will I have to send it on an expensive trip to Leica for repair? I reset the camera setting but still, the issue persists.   In all my years with this camera, this has never happened before.  I advise people not to mess with anything related to software on their camera unless they are sure of what they are doing.

I also got this message which I've never seen before.  I waited a few minutes but the problem persisted.  After turning the camera off, it would not turn back on unless I removed the battery.  I'm wondering if I should reload the latest firmware?  Is there a link?  I couldn't find it in the Leica website.

You might try resetting camera if you haven’t already.  And trying a different battery/SD card.

Leica can provide information regarding your sensor generation (with serial number).  This is important information for any current owner or buyer.  I think the new, non-corroding sensors became available in early 2016.

What are you buying?

Latest FW is 1.022… one linked above is older, sorry. You could speak with Josh at Leica Miami.  He can probably help you sort through this, as he continually deals with trades requiring updates and other attention.

My sensor was replaced by Leica.  I had no idea there was a V. 52 and 53.  The potential buyer wanted to know which version I had although I had already stated the sensor had been replaced.  Yes, I tried reseting the camera but it made no difference.  Perhaps reloading the firmware will fix it???

GOOD NEWS:  I tried once again resetting the camera, switched the SD card, tested the self timer (for no particular sensible reason) and now it's back to normal.  I put the first SD card in the camera, and it is still working as it should.  She fires up when I turn her on.  She's back to her old self!!!

The moral of this story, don't mess with the software on your camera unless you absolutely know what you're doing.  Funny thing though, when I unboxed the camera, since I had ready for sale, it looked as beautiful as ever, and I thought to myself, "do I really want to let go of this camera???"

Feed your digital M cameras only firmware prepared by the gourmet chefs at Leica Wetzlar.

Yes, before coming up with a ‘permanent’ (non-corroding) version - pre 2016- they put in the same problematic sensor, which could corrode again.  After that, the new version was used, with no recurring issues AFAIK.  That’s why the buyer wants to know the sensor version, as should you.

Glad my suggestions on resetting and replacing SD card worked.

Again, what new gear are you using?

Interesting.  I went over the paper work and the sensor was replaced in 2018, so it looks like I'm in the safe zone.  Thanks for this info, that's very helpful, and I was clueless about this.  My latest Leica is the Q2 Monochrom, and I love it.  I was struggling with focusing as I've lost some of the use of my left hand due to nerve damage, plus my 66 year old eyes are not what they used to be, so the Q2M has been a God sent.

Yes, you should be fine. Paperwork on replacement will aid sale/price, although Leica can also verify.

Buyers also like to know number of shutter actuations. I hesitate to even tell you that there’s an ‘easy’ way to scroll the service menu  to determine.😳

I bought an M10 Monochrom and had plans to trade my M9 Monochrom in the process (Leica Miami gave a generous estimate - 80% of FMV- about what I paid in 2017 on a mint copy). But I couldn’t bring myself to sell it, so now I use both Monochroms.

Sorry to hear of your physical constraints; at 71, I can relate.  Enjoy your Q2M.

I thought if the camera has FW 1.022 installed, that means the new, corrosion-resistant sensor has been installed. That version of the FW is only installed at the factory or Leica NJ as part of the sensor replacement, is not available for download.

Wilfredo, FWIW, if I were buying from you I'd want to know the CCD release. The date of the work wouldn't do it for me. I think other buyers will feel the same.

The button series you were given is the service screen display sequence. No harm in executing it. You'll find it by searching this forum. Personally, I'd want to confirm it's the permanent replacement.

My camera FW is 1.016, which was in place when I purchased it immediately following full service and new sensor from Germany in 2017, with paperwork.

These are the instructions I received, and this didn't work.  I could not find anything for the service screen on the M9 on this forum.  Do you know of a link I can access?

That sequence looks right. I vaguely remember the speed of entry being important. Maybe keep trying. Sorry, it's been years for me.

Quite right, so was mine. Version 1.022 (which is available for download, contrary to what I said) added a profile for a newer lens.

the firmware version has zero relation with what kind of sensor is installed
