Irakly Shanidze Posted September 12, 2007 Share #1 Posted September 12, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi guys, A friend of mine shared a story of a problem with his M8. It sounds rather peculiar... It seems to be destroying batteries. A brand new battery works fine until it is fully discharged and then recharged. After that a battery indicator on the camera body shows 75% of a charge. Subsequent recharge attempts lead to even lower charge level. Eventually the battery dies after the fourth cycle. He has been through three batteries already. Do any of you know about anything like this happening? Thanks! Irakly

jaapv Posted September 12, 2007 Share #2 Posted September 12, 2007 Original Leica batteries or third-party? The latter are known for this behaviour.
Irakly Shanidze Posted September 12, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted September 12, 2007 he claims that both original and knock-offs exhibit the same behaviour, except original batteries last longer.
jaapv Posted September 12, 2007 Share #4 Posted September 12, 2007 There are three things one can do before sending the camera to Solms. 1. Leave the camera on overnight with autoswitchoff deactivated. That will reset the battery 2. Leave the camera for at least three days without battery. That will reset the camera. 3. Reload the firmware. If this works, throw the no-name batteries in the dustbin. They are only suitable for emergency use.

Shootist Posted September 14, 2007 Share #6 Posted September 14, 2007 thanks. as i never had any experience with third-party batteries, i had no idea what to expect from them. i am sure, my buddy will be ecstatic to know that he spent all that money to throw them in rubbish Well don't throw them away. Drain them and recharge them and put them in the bag for a emergency. I was totally against buying aftermarket batteries but then I did do just that after I thought I damaged one of my real Leica batteries. Come to find out I didn't damage the real one and I have the same probelm as your friend with the aftermarket ones. Stil I have not thrown them away. That would be foolish.
