Jeff S Posted March 23 Share #305  Posted March 23 Post #94 describes how the OP finally prompted Alexander to reply and return his/her camera. As an aside, seems Camera Obscura was a well chosen business name.
eternalppat Posted May 5 Share #306  Posted May 5 I want to share my experience to help others avoid the ordeal I went through with Alexander Spencer, the owner of Camera Obscura Repair UK. Timeline of Events: July 16, 2023: I sent my camera to Mr. Alexander Spencer at his London address. He received it, but I did not hear from him for months. May 24, 2024: After nearly a year of silence, I paid for the repair. Mr. Spencer confirmed the camera was serviced and promised to dispatch it the following Monday. Again, there was no follow-up or shipment. December 2024: After months of no response, I sent a physical letter to another address associated with him, still with no result. January 12, 2025: Mr. Spencer replied, stating he would return my camera, but nothing happened. Legal and Investigative Actions: I contacted 20 law firms, Action Fraud, and Citizens Advice, but none were able to help recover my property. Private Investigator: As a last resort, I hired a private investigator, who managed to locate both Mr. Spencer and my camera at his residence. Only after being confronted did he finally return my camera. Outcome: I received my camera back May 05, 2025. However, the condition is worse than when I sent it in - the dial is now more damaged, and the only visible change is a new leather covering. After nearly two years, significant expense, and immense frustration, I do not recommend Alexander Spencer’s Camera Obscura Repair UK repair services to anyone. Recommendation: If you need camera repairs, consider reputable, established shops with transparent communication and proven customer service. My experience with Alexander Spencer was extremely negative, and I urge other camera owners to avoid similar hardship by seeking alternative repair professionals. Reliable options, such as established family-run camera repair shops in London, are available and can be found with a bit of research.
250swb Posted May 5 Share #307  Posted May 5 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well it’s resolved except for the condition of the camera and /or any compensation you should be due. But it’s good to know you have his address and having somebody turn up on his doorstep makes a difference.  But meanwhile he’s still got his Camera Obscura website up suggesting ‘they’ are a team of engineers working to repair camera’s, so the fraud goes on.

In the box he returned, there's the classic "service booking form" with all detail info about a customer, that form is placed with my camera and returned altogether. the form was signed on March 28th 2025. very fresh.
