New firmware 4.22.11.52 for M10 Monochrom

In a post dated 5-5-22 (yesterday), Leica Store San Francisco's blog is announcing new a firmware update 4.22.11.52 for the M10 Monochrom and other M10 cameras. 

It is odd that this has not been announced and posted here, but I am not finding it in the M10 Monochrom forum.

Yes, I noted that it was available in the M10 forum; downloaded and installed in the M10 Monochrom already.

However, since the M10 series bodies cannot support the full resolution of the new VisoFlex 2, and that's the key update provided by this update for the M10 Monochrom, I debate that its worth spending the money for the Visoflex 2 vs buying a Visoflex (020) which will render the same resolution (about 2.7 Mpixel vs the full ~3.5 Mpixel) for the purposes of the M10-M. I don't intend to use an EVF all that much, but it is very handy when doing work on a tripod with a longish lens, or when doing copy work, or other low angle work.

Interestingly enough, I thought the lower res / size would be an issue, but a great friend (Thanks Josh!) showed me that the smaller size is actually perfect for people with glasses because the entire image can be seen while wearing glasses.  Better than have to move your eyes around to see the edges…. 

Just another perspective.

I'd had a Viso 020 before, so I decided to save the money and buy another one. At least with my glasses/eye correction, I have no problem seeing the whole screen. And it works just fine for me... Tested it on several subjects with a range of lenses. 

So that is now taken care of.. and if I ever buy an M11 and its new Visoflex 2, my M10-M is ready for it.

The partial lockdown is over in beijing and thus i had the chance to drop by the local leica store and try and compare the Visoflex2 to the 020 on my M10M, gotta say i am disappointed by the smaller image compared to the M11.

thats simply not gonna workout for me, also trying the 135telyt on the M11, didnt impress me regarding the IS

 

guess its a pass for me

Funny, I love the Visoflix 02 on my M10M. Have used it extensively for infrared photography and prefer the smaller image to the one projected by the 020. Composition is easier for me even if I do not wear glasses, really. It's like looking at your photo on the computer screen from some distance. However, focusing seems to be more difficult than with the 020, but I will have to check that in a side-by-side comparison first.  I can also check my shutter speeds more easily due to the leftish position on the top. However, on my M11 (for which I initially bought it) I have rarely used the Visoflex 02 until now.

In some ways the "compressed" view on Visoflex 2 is nice and the panel seems to have a contrastier, richer image.  But for focusing, I think the 020 is easier.  I also find the 020's angle mechanism easier to live with - it'll stay put at any angle, whereas the Visoflex 2's stay put only at the preset index values.  The preset 45º it stays put, but the other in between values don't really "stick".
