It depends on what else you use.  I use R and M together sometimes,  and I use the 24mm Summilux which takes series 7 and my 35mm ASPH uses an old clip on style hood that also accepts series 7.  In those cases, it makes sense to take one filter type.  In general, I use the 48mm filter, though, for this lens.  Just another perspective.
