TomE Posted April 10, 2022 Share #1 Posted April 10, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Good Evening, I am searching to identify this lens from 1932 (Going from the serial number 151931). If some one can point me to a source that would be greatly appreciated. Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 Hi TomE, Take a look here 1932? unusual lens identification. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted April 10, 2022 Share #2 Posted April 10, 2022 It appears it spent its life being buried in the garden... It looks like a fairly standard Elmar with a modified front ring and the focus plate missing.
dg4mgr Posted April 10, 2022 Share #3 Posted April 10, 2022 Here the f-stop scale is engraved on a separate part that is attached by two screws to the front of the lens. Haven't seen this on Leitz Elmars before. Are you sure it is Leitz?
TomE Posted April 11, 2022 Author Share #4 Posted April 11, 2022 Thanks for the reply! I am unfortunately not certain it is a Leitz, but the rest of the construction seems similar to an early Elmar that I have. Apart from the serial number I with my limited knowledge I have frustratingly few ways other ways to identify it.

jerzy Posted April 11, 2022 Share #6 Posted April 11, 2022 according to the serial number lens is indeed from 1932, DOF does not have infrared mark yet. Aperture engravings look good to me, but of course the front ring ist homemade. Someone cut off the aperture scale from original Elmar and used it here. Pretty much work at this time, but if you do not have original spare parts....It is questionable if optics may be restored to good working condition, heavy fog inside, condition of aperture blades unknown. One of LF members made me aware about this camera and lens, more photos are here https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/334397695282?hash=item4ddba7e532:g:N1wAAOSwP0RiUYKg Camera is in similar condition, serial number is not readable, camera modified. Black paint removed, camera rechromed and at least one screw added for unknown reason. Not a very best object for restoration but if it has fascinating history behind maybe a collector item

Maybe this modification has been done to convert a Compur Elmar back to a normal lens by removing the Compur shutter ? It would be interesting to have the serial number of the body, hardly readable on the ebay pictures.
jerzy Posted April 11, 2022 Share #9 Posted April 11, 2022 vor einer Stunde schrieb dg4mgr: Maybe this modification has been done to convert a Compur Elmar back to a normal lens by removing the Compur shutter ? not really. There are significant mechanicawl differencies between regular and Co mpur Elmar, you cannot practically reuse any part. Similarly the camera bodies - too many and too significant differencies between IA/C and IB 1
