The metering sensor has an equal amount of pixels sensitive to red, green, and blue; these are arranged in a striped pattern so that all the sensor pixels within a column share the same filter colour. Yes, thanks for pointing that out, it's not a Bayer pattern! it is different as can be seen here: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/NikonF5/metering/ But that really doesn't change anything, it was just to underline that the statement: All camera meters and even handheld are set for grey.... As far as I can tell from other threads, a lot of the people posting here have Leica M8/M9 and Nikon D3/D3X cameras. As a professional photographer it makes a lot of sense to have and use both systems IMHO Therefore I find it relevant to point out when a mistake is made and /or an an advantage/feature can be used from the other system, works both ways btw. Is not correct, the Nikon metering does work with colours. One should also keep in mind that both compact and EVIL cameras use the main sensor for metering and thus distinguish colours. jaapv Posted May 3, 2011 Share #85 Posted May 3, 2011 Aren't we forgetting that the M8 and M9 measure off the shuttercurtain, from a whitish spot and that color, Bayer patterns, sensors and such don't come into it? There is a guess at what aperture the lens is set at when using coded lenses on the camera. Via the little sensor on the front. As that is a simple little silicon light meter, this whole color thing doesn't enter into it either.
