If you found the M6 and 35/2 unacceptable to use I wouldn't think that a replacement will be significantly easier. Wider lenses may be more fogiving on slight misfocus is about all I can say. I am aware that at some point an M will no longer be my ideal camera because it relies on good visual acuity. I don't like this potentiality but feel it better to accept it than do anything else.
Advertisement Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 Hi pgk, Take a look here What M and lens combo (not the usual question)?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
RexGig0 Posted March 30, 2022 Share #22 Posted March 30, 2022 My first 28mm lens, used on my M10 and M Type 246 cameras, was an Elmarit-R 28mm, with a Novoflex LEM/LER adapter, which I have almost always focused using the distance and DOF scales on the lens, rather than using the LCD in live view. R lenses are not rangefinder coupled, when used with the adapter, but this was/is not a problem, with a 28mm lens. The chief disadvantage is that the R lens, with the adapter, is a quite large combination. When I did my a 28mm M lens, a Version 3 Elmarit-M, I have generally continued to zone/scale focus, and this does include while photographing my toddler grandsons, as they are playing, and running about. I can focus with the rangefinder, but zone/scale focusing is SO much quicker, when using wide-angle lenses, with their ample DOF. Looking downward, at the scales, on the top of the lens, works well when holding the camera at their level. Yes, I did buy the M10 first. While my M10 was out of service, after a mishap, I bought a pre-owned 246 Monochrom. There is nothing, at all, wrong with choosing 240-series cameras, except the ISO limitation of the color cameras. (The Type 246 Monochrom is as capable, at high ISO, as the M10.) The viewfinder experience, for those of us wearing eyeglasses, is better with an M10, but the difference is, in my humble opinion, incremental.
Marc B-C Posted March 30, 2022 Author Share #23 Posted March 30, 2022 Thanks all for the input. I am still considering the M240 / 28mmm Elmarit, however, some concerns re ISO (not above 1600) are now slowing me down. The self allocated budget certainly allows this combo to work, however, as the wish is more romantic than cerebral, so will see how I feel in a week.
Marc B-C Posted April 15, 2022 Author Share #24 Posted April 15, 2022 Thank you all for your input. I ended up not going for a digital M and instead bought a "starter" DJI drone to supplement my Q2. So far no crashes.
