That will tell us nothing - there is always new-old stock to be found in the distribution channels, sometimes for many years - I bought my M6 Classic new in unopened box nine years after the production ended.

As far as I know it is in production. If you are considering one, I would go for it. Don't worry about it not coming in kit form. You can pick the lens that suits your needs. When I bought mine, it came with the 18-56. It is a great lens. Later I picked up the 11-23 and have been pleased.

First time I’ve seen this version of the menu for Leica CL on the Leica AU store - no menu item for CL cameras. The black CL still shows as a search result, either body or as a kit with 18-56 lens, but “back order now”.

The CL2 must be very close now that the CL stocks are getting thin.

If the CL is being discontinued, it is a shame. I find it interesting that Leica will not maintain the APS-C cameras but keep the alliance for the D-Lux and V-Lux camera.

All I know, if someone wants a CL and can find one, they should get it. The fact that it is no longer in production should not matter. The camera still takes great photos. It is still very compact and has a wide array of native L mount and M mount lenses (with adapter).

That's the danger in the online world.  It's a depressing topic and we are all at different Kubler-Ross stages.  I hit acceptance and am going to shoot the thing til it drops and have fingers crossed that Lumix/Sigma give us something.

It’s not the first camera system I’ve killed off. I was an A-mount user in my DSLR/DSLT days.

My CL continues to do everything I ask of it, and is a better camera now than when I bought it. It is still my most enjoyable camera, even  if there are things my Sony cameras do better.

If there were to be a CL2 that offered something to me without destroying the current experience, then I’d go to one of my local Leica Stores and drop the cash on the counter. But I think my cash will be staying in my pocket.

(Not actually cash on the counter or in my pocket - I think the last time I held cash was in Japan, pre-COVID)

Manu years ago I worked on a supercomputer chip set. The company ordered 3000 set in the first production, and that is all. 1000 set are used to build the system, 2000 sets are spare parts for the whole life of the product.

A lot of high end electronic low volume products are probably handled similarly. The manufacturing was stopped right after the first shot.

As far as I am concerned the Leica CL ended production in 1976.

why do Leitz reuse product names, can't they think up any new names?

You mean like why Porsche keep using “911” as a model name?
