The eyes are isolated and emphasized by the shallow dof and the back of the mother's head. It's a very effective composition and a beautiful image overall.

As to the cropping suggestion, I believe this photographer knows exactly what he's doing and why he's doing it. A possible explanation is that having the primary subject positioned where they are moving out of the frame and facing in that direction creates a tension that would not be obtained by balancing them in the center. Whatever his reason for this framing, it's his image and his decision.

I like this shot but I think I would have cropped it closer  to  include the girl and mother

Dear Henry, Herr Barnack and fotografr (Brent) I thank you for your comments. It’s great that other photographers give their opinion and make suggestions (on this image in this case and on others posted by members). Henry I am attaching a vertical photo of the mother and daughter. I think this one has value also. This is the first photo that I did but I rapidly turned the camera horizontal and clicked before they were out of the frame and because I wanted to show more of the environment. I do think the horizontal image gives more of a story. The title of the reportage is Market of Humanity. Showing the life in the market. And Brent, I do agree that the placement of the subject creates a tension. Of course I was not aware of this when I took the image. Thanks. I do like to place my subjects off centre. I must say that this moment happened very rapidly. I tend to follow my instincts and hope for the best. And that the focus is tack sharp. Regards. And thanks Carl.

After taking a second look I have to agree your first shot is the best I was wrong

Hi Henry. I think you are being a bit harsh on yourself. WRONG you were not. It's just that you had a different opinion. And once again thanks for expression it.

What a wonderful photo Carl! To me, number one is perfect. You see a bit of the background and her eyes are the most thrilling part of your composition. Very well done!

Thank you Benqui. This child's gaze is strong and exceptional. For me it is one of the most enduring images of my « reportage».

The original is a superb off-chance casual and only feature is 'the eyes'. Leaves one wondering what the devil is going on there?

Thank you Jerry Attrik. In one of his songs, Tom Waits sings: « what's he doing in there ». He could add: » what's going on there?»

I looked at the motorcycle images. Great photography I must say. Some angles are awesome. To see your work and your studio reminds me ( in a smaller scale) of the times I  was an advertising photographer in Montreal. I closed up shop just a few years after the advent of digital.
