etienne_werner Posted September 9, 2007 Share #1 Posted September 9, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just got back from Perpignan where I attended the professional photographers event called "Visa pour l'image".Interesting thing was that approximately eighty percent of the photographers I saw carrying a camera had an M8 on theirs shoulder. I was surprised to see so many of my colleagues having an M8. Good publicity for Leica. Regards, Etienne
Advertisement Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 Hi etienne_werner, Take a look here visa pour l'image and M8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
gesper Posted September 9, 2007 Share #2 Posted September 9, 2007 Interesting. I have had mine since November 2006 and not once have I seen anyone else with one (I live in Chicago). On the other hand, a lot of people notice mine and ask about it, but virtually none of them had previously heard of it.
stunsworth Posted September 9, 2007 Share #3 Posted September 9, 2007 I've been to 'Visa' a few times. I wish I could have made it this year. Anyone thinking of going in the future should go. There are exhibitions all over town and it's all free. Remarkable.
peterv Posted September 9, 2007 Share #4 Posted September 9, 2007 Hi Etienne, nice story, and a good sign indeed! I hope to go to Perpignan myself before the festival ends on the 16th. Of course I'll bring my M8. (and MP) Did you visit the 'Noor'-party? I heard there was quite a lot of Magnum champagne from... Magnum..? newyorkone Posted September 9, 2007 Share #5 Posted September 9, 2007 Living in NYC, I get stopped a lot and people ask about the camera. Most of the people who ask are professional photographers. I'm just a hobbyist but if there ever was a camera that could get your foot in the door of professional photography...I think the clear winner is the M8! vanhulsenbeek Posted September 9, 2007 Share #6 Posted September 9, 2007 Although Dutch I do speak French and travel to Belgium a lot. I there buy, without fail, the superb two French language magazines Chasseur d' Image and Photo Reponses. Those two magazine have been very supportive for Leica, its M8 and certainly its lenses throughout the last year. Not long ago Chasseur reviewed a score of Leica M lenses that all got the highest possible praise. While not forgetting their high price. France evidently is a good breeding ground for digi Leica fans!
stunsworth Posted September 9, 2007 Share #7 Posted September 9, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Sander, when I lived in Paris I used to read both of those magazines. Now that I'm back in the UK I have a subscription to both. They are light years ahead of anything we have here in terms of quality of reviews and the way they cover photography rather than just the equipment. adan Posted September 10, 2007 Share #8 Posted September 10, 2007 Isn't Perpignan/Visa Pour l'Image where the pre-release video of an M8 was leaked from last September before PhotoKina? Someone passing it around at a garden party?

etienne_werner Posted September 10, 2007 Author Share #10 Posted September 10, 2007 I believe one of the reasons why there were so many Leica photographers there is because many of these photographers coming to the Visa are documentary photographers. The subject matter which many of them cover is very well suited to be photographed with a Leica M8. Unfortunately I didn't have the time to see any of the expositions as I was there for only one day and that was taken up with meetings. vanhulsenbeek Posted September 10, 2007 Share #11 Posted September 10, 2007 Hi Sander, when I lived in Paris I used to read both of those magazines [Chasseur d'Ímage and Photo Reponses]. Now that I'm back in the UK I have a subscription to both. They are light years ahead of anything we have here in terms of quality of reviews and the way they cover photography rather than just the equipment. They continue to amaze me as well. The B&W photo's in the article about Theo in Liberia in the Chasseur August/September number (still available in kiosks) were a joy to see and the article a big boost for my M8 morale :-) . And very frank too: he used B&W (and how!) because he did not have his IR cut-off filters yet and had big IR problems.
