Hello,

I just received this Leica 1A with the 50mm f3.5 Elmar lens.  When moving from the infinity position to the near focus of 1.5meters should there be a hard stop at the 1.5m near focus position?  The lens here will just keep turning past the 1.5m near focus position and the lens will unscrew out of the camera if I kept turning the focus tap. The camera came from a reputable dealer and I have it on a 14 day approval. Is this normal?

Although its part of this cameras history, I have mixed feelings about the paint removed finish - kind of like it and kind of not sure.

Thank you for your help.

Robert

The lens' mount is not original for a 1A, which has a fixed mount Elmar 50mm ; the first evidence is the focus depth scale, which was absent on the 1A, and the base ring where the scale is engraved is different (slanted) from the one of an original 1A.

So... this is a 1A someway "converted" to interchangable lens... with a later Elmar, probably

no, it is not normal. The stop pin/screw is too low, must have been replaced with a wrong one

Hello,

Well, now that you point it out I can see that this is the wrong lens and very different from the 1A.

Other than running a roll of film through it no telling if it even focuses correctly unless someone shimmed the mount to become "standard".

I am surprised that the reputable dealer did not mention these issues.

I guess I'll send it back.

Thank you all for your very good help - I appreciate you!

Robert
