Juliannel Posted March 7, 2022 Share #1 Posted March 7, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey Everyone, I hope I have the right forum here. I found this Ernst Leitz lens for next to nothing back at my home town. I cannot seem to find a lot of information about it and what cameras it was produced for. Also what it's value might be? Focusing ring is a tad rough when twisting but the optics are clean! Serial Number: 1037673 I would love to hear more about it!! Attatched are some images. Welcome, dear visitor! jaapv Posted March 7, 2022 Share #2 Posted March 7, 2022 Welcome to the forum. You will certainly get information about the lens, but be aware that the forum does not do valuations.
Anbaric Posted March 7, 2022 Share #3 Posted March 7, 2022 The 9cm Elmar a common lens made in various versions for the Leica screwmount / Barnack cameras, like the II and III series. The mount is variously called LTM (Leica thread mount), L39 or just 'Leica screw'. The serial number places it in 1952, when the IIIf was a current model, but any LTM camera will work. They also made adapters that allowed it to be used on the later M series cameras, and today there are adapters that work with many mirrorless digital cameras. The 9cm (90mm) focal length and the way it renders images is often thought suitable for portraits. Most of the original screwmount cameras, except the late IIIg, need an accessory viewfinder to frame shots with this lens. The M cameras have built-in framelines in their viewfinders for this focal length, and of course with digitals you can just use the screen or electronic viewfinder. As above, we don't do valuations, but the value of this one will be reduced by its condition - e.g., there's a missing band of 'Vulcanite' (hard black textured rubber) that would have originally covered the area where you can see a bit of corrosion near the lens mount.
