For example, if you want photograph an iconic location at different times of year or seasons, the image overlay will help you frame the scene repeatable each time you revisit the location. Another application is if you do product photography and you want to make sure everything being photographed is scaled accordingly relative to each other, you can place a ruler or something on the edge of the frame and repeatable match the same angle and size.
