Hi All,

Perhaps a daft question, (I only ever used Leica with 0.7m min focusing distance), but I need some information/help on focusing above lens which has minimum focusing distance of 0.8m. (about to get it, so want to ensure all is OK).

I understand that lenses below 0.7m are a pain unless you use live view, (which I never do), but what about 0.8m? Will my RF focusing patch register 0.8m as its limit on my M240? i.e. when close to the subject and my RF patch confirms focus, will that be the given min focusing distance of 0.8m?

P.S. Just got back to my beloved digital Leica after a few years stint with another system and while waiting to be able to afford to rebuild the system (after just purchasing mint black M240), I need Leica glass and this is my best option as I have a great deal on this lens.

Many Thanks in advance, Bobby

Hello,

Welcome here Bobby,

Don't worry, the M240 can be used without any fear with Summarit-M 35mm (or any other I use also 50mm/75mm)...

RF if calibrated will take 'care' of 0.8m and everything will be ok.

Not the most expensive combo, in my use M240/or M262 and Summarit-M lenses are the best value/price in Leica World.

Welcome to the forum, Bobby. Doing much photography in the close-up realm is tricky with a rangefinder camera. It can be done, by rocking to and fro,  using the rf patch.  The M240 is much easier at greater distances. Can you describe the subjects of interest to you for which you need to shoot that close?

Thank you! RF is calibrated really well as it had a CLA before bought it.I also borrowed friends Voigtlander to ensure camera is OK and (I think), the calibration is spot on.

Thanks for your reply. No specific subject but just wanted to ensure my RF will register out of focus (correct distance for 0.8m), when I am per se below it e.g 0.6m. I am just used to 0.7m when I used to shoot M2/M9 with the 35mm Cron.

I see no reason why it should not do so. You need to understand framing inaccuracies at closest distances, as explained in the manual.

Great. Yes I am well used to those when I shot M2/M9 for years. Great thing about M240 its the live view and I can precisely learn the positioning so when using RF I will have an approximate idea! Thanks agin for your help.
