Hi Guys,

Just downloaded this software to check the shutter count on my newly acquired (demo unit from a Leica store) M10P. This software works great, except for one problem.

The L1000xxx.DNG file # is only valid for photos taken after the Image Numbering in the Menu has been reset. If there was any chance your Image Numbering was reset BEFORE you received the camera, it will NOT show the true shutter count. You can see the reset image # towards the bottom in the photo attached. Otherwise this is great software. Al Brown is correct.

I don’t know what you are talking about. I can’t even follow your logic.

the tool works great in my case, reset or not the imagine numbering

If all it relies on is a sample image it won’t be able to tell if the counter was reset.

allegedly the camera keeps a count that can be checked via a service mode but even that isn’t perfect, ie if the internal battery (not the one you use) died or was removed even that count would be reset.

What does it show when connected to your camera and you click on the "i" ?  Mine gives the shutter count.

I’ll have to try that. What software do you guys use with your MacBook or PC to look at the photos initially?

Hi Robert, here's a screenshot of what I've gotten from clicking the "i" for info from the camera.

As for your question, I usually just import photos into Lightroom classic, which works well for me.  The leica sync software is good to get shutter counts or grab the occasional jpg for an email but not really useful for normal work flow.  Hope this helps.

Image count and shutter actuation count are two different things.

I agree but what do you think this software is telling us?  The number does not necessarily correspond with images number, so is it shutter actuation or something else.  Just curious and not wanting to get into a debate on the topic, just wondering what you think it is telling us.  Thank you for your opinion.

 Siriusone59,

Thanks for posting that photo, And I'm not trying to say this software is not good or advantageous to use. My point is it appears the software is relying on the Image count and not the shutter count. Thus my illustration of when I reset the image count (in the menu of whichever body you have), the shown image count was Lxxx224,dng before, and Lxxx001,dng after, So it's not showing the true history of shutter clicks. I'm going to have to try and see if clicking on the "i" gives me a different count, now that I reset the image count in the menu. Which brings up an interesting point, why would Leica want you to reset the image count in a camera? But that's another story. LOL

Many be someone else will chime in a tell us the magic sequence to find the true history of shutter clicks on the M10 series?

The image count is how many times the sensor has powered up to capture an image.

The info is dependant upon what one considers important...

For me (OMWV) it gives some indication as to the life lived by the camera (number of images it's produced vs condition)

Shutter actuations are of little value IMO (again OMWV) as the shutter opens/closes whenever LV is used.... of course shutters have a shelf life, but it's a large number

As said above, the app gives the number of images produced by the camera

The part that records shutter and image count has non volatile memory and those counts don’t disappear.

@Robert Eit appears you’re referring to the sequence number in the filename. The app in discussion does not use this sequence when showing the “image count” under the information button. These are two different numbers.
IME this app provides what I think is probably pretty accurate. My M10 file counter has been reset several times but when I used this app the image count was something like 30000, no connection to the the number on filename for pics out of camera that  you reference.

Hi PGH,

I've been trying different lenses, and shooting .dng as well as .jpg, I still cannot get the software to tell me a shutter count. When I click on the "i" info button, or even any of the other buttons, nothing shows up as "image count"? And I just received my M10P back from Leica in NJ. where I specifically asked them to tell me the shutter count while they were doing a CLA on it. The lead technician told me they cannot ascertain the shutter count? He confirmed that in the Menu, the user can reset the Image Count but not the Shutter Count. So I'm frustrated and at a loss here hoping this software would be able to tell me, just so I would know how much use the camera has on it. I purchased it as a Certified Used Body and it has a warranty with it. Back to the software; if I load a .dng file with the software, and click on the "i" button here is a screen shot of what I see:

Any idea why I can't see a shutter count?

It is called Image Count, for the reasons already covered. If you hover your curser or click above the “i” it should show you. If it doesn’t, I can’t help you.

Do you get the same screen shots as the ones i posted here?
I think what would really help me is to see a screenshot of the Image Count you are referring to.

Can anyone post a screenshot of that?

If on a Mac, hold down the shift key, the command key, and hit the #5 key for a screenshot. You will have to reduce the size of it to post, due to size restrictions of this site.

In the screenshot you posted of the program - you see in the top right corner, there is a lowercase "i" - click it. @Robert E

@Siriusone59 already posted the exact screenshot you are asking for in the previous page.

That image count has absolutely no correlation with the file sequence you're referring to in your post, which is not and does not pretend to be any sort of cumulative tally of pics taken on the cam. Reset that all you want - the "image count" from the software will not correspond to it. Make of that what you will. The consensus is that "image count" is the pics taken + every shutter actuation due to turning on live view. The number it gives me corresponds roughly to what I have in my archive. Idk. Can't do better than that.
