Guest Posted February 10, 2022 Share #1  Posted February 10, 2022 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Got an amazing new toy yesterday - Techart TZM-01 S-mount (Nikon Z) autofocus adapter for M lenses. Starting to play, preliminary findings - Focus almost instantaneous on Noctilux, even wide open at f/0.95! Great precision. Not as speedy on Summilux 28mm - on that lens a lot more racking back and forth before stable focus is achieved. Image quality also relatively better on Nocti vs. Summilux (compared to how both perform on M10). Shooting with the Nocti feels a bit like Canon FE 85mm f/1.2 on my 5D mk1-3 bodies. Result 85-90% in focus keeper rate (eye auto focus, at f/0.95) for "casual portraits" of a single subject, 3-5ft distance, i.e. subjects who are not posing but moving about in whatever they are doing, with some degree of randomness. Example of an outdoors shot at f/0.95 (sorry - boring back yard table, I didn't get a model release from my family for the people pics), single point focus on the tag in the plant pot: Welcome, dear visitor! Highly recommended on the Nocti, doesn't make as much sense on the 28mm Summilux (other than serving as a mechanical adapter). You may wish to prefocus quickly in manual mode and rely on AF to nail focus. Works with 28/2 lenses on my Sony.

Here is a picture of a familiar household item taken with the 21mm Summilux at f/8 (full frame, no crop): Welcome, dear visitor! lct Posted February 11, 2022 Share #5 Â Posted February 11, 2022 Yes easier on closeups due to shallow DoF. Funny to do AF with M lenses anyway.
