tivoli Posted February 4, 2022 Share #1 Posted February 4, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is there a filter on the lens? I haven't checked since I bought the Q2 last April and the guy in the store put it on. Maybe it fell off? I rarely take off the hood, if ever. Recently, I've suspected I should get a better filter so I got a Heliopan UV SH-PMC. For the life of me a) I can't budge it, if it's on there b) it doesn't even look like there is a filter on there except for maybe the flat ring? Thus my question - is there a filter on the lens?? I guess I have to give it a good cleaning too. Open to cleaning tips! Thank you! Welcome, dear visitor! tivoli Posted February 4, 2022 Author Share #3 Posted February 4, 2022 So you're saying I don't have a filter on. The image is a little hard to see due to the size but it looks like mine with no filter. That is one huge mystery to me because I thought I saw him put it on in the store, and I never took it off or saw it come off.
Dennis Posted February 4, 2022 Share #4 Posted February 4, 2022 I can't do better than this ... It's exactly when he remove the hood and put a filter on 😅 1
Olaf_ZG Posted February 4, 2022 Share #5 Posted February 4, 2022 As far as I remember from the Q, you need to remove a ring before putting the filter on. May be this is what you saw?

May be this is what you saw? I vaguely remember the man in the camera store saying something was difficult re putting on the filter and that's all I remember. I guess I should look in the box to see if there is a ring? I screwed on the new filter and it fit just fine. Thank you.
tivoli Posted February 4, 2022 Author Share #8 Posted February 4, 2022 (edited) I know this must sound awfully strange, but after seeing peach tinted coloring in images when I photographed a foggy scene, I put up a post here and someone thought it could be the filter. I bought a filter when I bought the camera and the camera store guy seemed to have some difficulty putting it on and I was browsing the store and assumed he put it on. I actually haven't looked in the box to see if he couldn't do it for some reason and maybe it's in the original boxes which I have. But, he certainly did not tell me that it wasn't on there and having the hood on since hour 1 for the last 10 months except for occasionally wiping the lens, my brain did not accept that there was not a filter on the lens. It blew me away that it wasn't on there and this being my first Leica, I thought, ok, maybe it's a strange sort of filter setup that it's embedded in there and I'm not understanding that there is some sort of tricky removal of it. The lens does not look scratched but I'll examine it further. Glad I made that other post about the coloring which made me buy a better filter! Herr Barnack Posted February 4, 2022 Share #9 Posted February 4, 2022 There is no filter present. If you had a filter on there with the lens hood and the filter somehow backed itself off, you would know it. The filter would be loose, rattling around in the lens hood. My best guess is that someone took the filter off at some point and didn't tell you. Or maybe you took it off long ago and simply forgot?

For the last 100 years (joke) that I've had cameras, I've never not had a filter on lenses, so this possibility was nowhere on the radar. Yes, you're right, I certainly would have felt, heard or seen the filter move around or fall off. No, I would not have taken it off. No one else touches my camera in my home. It's a mystery!! Ba Erv Posted February 4, 2022 Share #11 Posted February 4, 2022 Perhaps you should look into a thumbnail filter.

Siriusone59 Posted February 4, 2022 Share #13 Posted February 4, 2022 Perhaps you have a family of "Borrowers" living within the walls of your home? 😉 Just be glad that they only needed the filter.
Guest Posted February 4, 2022 Share #14 Posted February 4, 2022 Similar problem, I've been looking how to replace the film canister in my Q2. I think the dealer put in a 24 exposure Kodachrome when I bought it and I'm sure I've taken at least 30 photos!
