davidmknoble Posted February 6, 2022 Share #21 Posted February 6, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) @Leif MohlinI hope you get the contacts working on the back. The R8 was known for some electronics issues. If you search (I don’t remember where it was here) there are some threads about the early R8’s. The later ones had a fix. The contacts in the door are most likely part of the cause. Mine occasionally will do this when I’m in a hurry. Check to be sure they spring in and out so all of them complete the contact when the door is shut and press on the door some to see if that helps. I’d bet finding an old door to replace or a user R8 with a good door would potentially help. While there isn’t anyone I know of that will work on them, the cameras are inexpensive enough to find parts. I also found I really enjoy the R9 which is newer and has better electronics. But I love the weight of the R8 more - just easier to hold with heavier lenses. Finally, I’ve only purchased my R8, R9’s from reputable Leica dealers and I have returned a few over the years that didn’t work with no hassles… Let us know if it works out for you! Best of luck…

sanadsaad Posted February 8, 2022 Share #23 Posted February 8, 2022 Came upon this thread as I was researching leica film SLR’s. I’m now in 2 minds to pick up an early serial number (2420041) R8! Dealer offers a 12 month warranty though.
Leif Mohlin Posted February 8, 2022 Author Share #24 Posted February 8, 2022 As initiator of this thread my advice is of course worthless as I'm a true Rockie. But 12 months seems plenty of time to find out wether your R8 is ok. Hope you will be as lucky as I seem to be so far.
