innerimager Posted September 7, 2007 Share #1 Posted September 7, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) The more I use this lens, the more I use it! I have been very pleased with it's look, and focusing. Here's a 100% crop (though downsized on pbase) as an example. best...Peter
Advertisement Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 Hi innerimager, Take a look here the oft maligned 35/1.4 asph. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

ptomsu Posted September 7, 2007 Share #3 Posted September 7, 2007 Sorry, I did not intend to copy the picture, it was not taken by me! But it is great! Sorted
Paul_S Posted September 7, 2007 Share #4 Posted September 7, 2007 Well, nothing wrong with that picture, Peter. Must have missed why it is not a popular lens.
rebride Posted September 7, 2007 Share #5 Posted September 7, 2007 I have to add that this lens also shows its very good side in low light situations.
AGeoJO Posted September 7, 2007 Share #6 Posted September 7, 2007 At 100% crop, the image really looks great! Lately, it has become one of my favorite lenses as well. Here is one at f/2.8.
innerimager Posted September 7, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted September 7, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sorry for the repost, but it came to my attention that the original has a black shadow under her hairline created by a quick selection and brightening of her face. Here it is without the selection. And the problems reported have to do with focus shifting and the quality of the bokeh. best...Peter
sean_reid Posted September 7, 2007 Share #8 Posted September 7, 2007 I mentioned this in another thread but the 35/1.4 ASPH is one of my favorite lenses. Cheers, Sean
thrid Posted September 7, 2007 Share #9 Posted September 7, 2007 The 1.4/35 ASPH is one of the best lenses Leica has ever produced. Heck it may be the best high-speed 35 out there. The only other fast 35 that I know of that's in the same ballpark is the Canon 1.4/35L and it's 3 times the size (I own both). I've had my Lux asph for a few years now and if I could only keep one lens, this would be it. (with the 2/50 Summicron-DR secretly tucked in my back pocket...) pemayeux Posted September 7, 2007 Share #10 Posted September 7, 2007 I've posted this before as well. This lens is my favorite on my MP and it is my favorite on the M8. The latter surprises me a little in that with the crop factor it becomes more of a 50mm on the M8 - a focal length that I have never warmed up to on my film cameras. carstenw Posted September 7, 2007 Share #11 Posted September 7, 2007 P.G., can you use your DR on the M8? Was it modified?
rosuna Posted September 7, 2007 Share #12 Posted September 7, 2007 I am interested in the DR and the M8 too. Can you use it avoiding the close-range mode?
sean_reid Posted September 7, 2007 Share #13 Posted September 7, 2007 The 1.4/35 ASPH is one of the best lenses Leica has ever produced. Heck it may be the best high-speed 35 out there. The only other fast 35 that I know of that's in the same ballpark is the Canon 1.4/35L and it's 3 times the size Actually, the CV 35 Nokton is in the same ball park for sure but its much larger. I also like the Canon 35/1.4L quite a bit, even though (or because?<G>) it vignettes noticeably at larger apertures. That said, I would agree that (in many respects) the 35/1.4 ASPH may well be the best F/1.4 35 I've ever tested, so long as one keeps in mind that some copies seem to show more focus shift than others. mweiner Posted September 8, 2007 Share #14 Posted September 8, 2007 I would agree that (in many respects) the 35/1.4 ASPH may well be the best F/1.4 35 I've ever tested, so long as one keeps in mind that some copies seem to show more focus shift than others. My new Leica 35mm 1.4 ASPH focuses perfectly at f1.4 and shows a focus shift of 6cm back focus at f2 to about 5.6 at distances of 4ft and 7ft. I am testing on a tripod with the test chart previously recommended on this form (Home) and an M8 body known to focus accurately. My question is whether that 6 cm of focus shift is about what I should expect for this lens and whether I should ask leica to readjust it. If it needs readjusting, would I be better off to return it to New Jersey or Solms? .
Fin Posted September 8, 2007 Share #15 Posted September 8, 2007 Oft maligned? - Not from what I've read - I don't have this lens but, from what I've read and the pictures I've seen (including yours) , it's already an M8 classic. I have the 24/2.8 and a Nocti. Next on the list is a CV 15 followed by a 90 macro - after that it's the 35/ 1.4! Nice shots.
innerimager Posted September 8, 2007 Author Share #16 Posted September 8, 2007 thanks Fin. I also have the 24, nocti, and CV 15. All great. The 35 is becoming my standard though. best...Peter
