analogM Posted February 27, 2022 Share #4 Posted February 27, 2022 Is it legal to offer the opportunity to buy entries? Does it not become a (illegal) lottery in stead of sweepstakes by doing so?
bradhusick Posted February 27, 2022 Author Share #5 Posted February 27, 2022 (edited) You may also enter for free by mail. I encourage everyone to read the complete set of rules. Edited February 27, 2022 by bradhusick

analogM Posted February 28, 2022 Share #7 Posted February 28, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thank you @bradhusick for your reply. I am aware of the possibility to enter for free by mail. I have read the complete rules. Contrary to what my questioning might suggest, I applaud the LHSA for providing an exciting opportunity to 'win' a great prize: the Leica M11. However, I find the lack of upfront transparency somewhat disappointing. Also, offering the opportunity to increase one's odds at winning by buying entries take these sweepstakes into a grey area between sweepstakes and a lottery, which are, or should be, two very different things. Viv Posted March 1, 2022 Share #8 Posted March 1, 2022 (edited) I neither want nor need a Leica M11. If I were to win it, I would be burdened with the hassle of selling it. Edited March 1, 2022 by Viv

Thank you. We have been doing sweepstakes for many years and have many lucky winners. We adhere to all applicable regulations and try to be as transparent as possible. Laws in this field are complex and vary from state to state (in the US) and across the world. We use a third-party provider for the logistics and we must register in several states to make this possible. All of the proceeds go toward supporting our members and photo grant winners, since we are a non-profit. On balance I think we are providing a positive service to the Leica community. Herr Barnack Posted March 10, 2022 Share #10 Posted March 10, 2022 @bradhusick I read the official rules and I have a question: Do you have to be a member of LHSA to win the M11? I did not see a mention of that in the rules so I wanted to check with you.
bradhusick Posted March 12, 2022 Author Share #11 Posted March 12, 2022 You do NOT have to be a member to enter. Good luck!

Herr Barnack Posted March 31, 2022 Share #14 Posted March 31, 2022 (edited) @bradhusick Unfortunately, all 75 of my entries turned out to be defective; as a result I did not win the M11. I would therefore like to return them for a refund. Can you assist me with that? Best, Herr Barnack 😁 Edited March 31, 2022 by Herr Barnack
bradhusick Posted April 4, 2022 Author Share #15 Posted April 4, 2022 Please contact Richard at info@lhsa.org. I am not sure what "defective" means, but describe it to Richard.
