onasj Posted January 16, 2022 Share #1 Posted January 16, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) The Protector (half-case) that Leica sells for the M11 is great, except for two niggles: 1) There’s no way to mount the camera on a tripod while it’s in the case. 2) The case adds about 1 cm of extra height to the camera. These two issues are related, in that the reason the Protector is so tall is because it has a screw that attaches to the tripod mount of the M11 at the first layer of material on the bottom of the camera, then has a second layer of leather that covers this screw and forms the (smooth) bottom of the Protector. A better design would be the way the Arte Di Mano (and some other) half-cases do it: use a single special screw that has both male and female 1/4” tripod screw threads to both attach the half-case to the camera, and to provide a tripod mount on the bottom of the case. Then the bottom of the case can consist of a single layer of leather, with a battery door and tripod mount. But I digress… the bonus I just found in my Protector is that the inside of the battery door has a leather spare SD card holder! So at least that extra cm of thickness is being used as SD card storage space

One screw both secures the case to the camera and provides a tripod mount for the case.
