Hello together,

I'm not directly a Leica user but have used some Leica lenses long time ago, namely the 35mm and 90 Cron in R mount ( that was at a time when I had a Canon DRebel ;) ). Loved the 90 Cron for portraits that for me are always head and shoulder, so pretty tight. Never the less, I found the Cron a great allround lens since stopped down to 5.6 it was sharpening up nicely all over the frame. Fast forward almost 15 years I find myself looking for yet another portrait lens camera being a 24mp Sony A7II. I have the Zeiss 100/3.5 as a light weight lanscape lens ( paired with a Distagon 28/2.8 plus occasionaly a Planar 50/1,4 ) but since I also got myself a 7Artisan 28/1.4 I was looking for a portrait lens and remembered the nice drawing of the R-Cron. I do have a Sony 85/1.8 with AF but besides AF ( meaning I can also give the camera to someone else to take a picture of us for example ) I can not say I enjoy using that lens ( even if pictures are ok ). So now I was debating getting either one of the M-Cron's or the second Elmarit or the new Voigtländer 90/2.8. Has anybody had any experience with them on non Leica cameras ?

Regards, Stefan

The Summicron-R 90/2 non apo (11219) is one of my favorites for portraits together with the Summicron-M 90/2 v2 (11123). Both work fine on Sony A7s and A7r2 bodies but they are more bulky than the Summicron-M 90/2 v3, taking into account the size of the adapters. The v3 does fine for portraits and can be 6-bit coded but it has more CA. The Elmarit-M 90/2.8 v2 (11807) is too sharp, i feel, for portraits but the v1 of it (11129) is a bit softer at f/2.8 and can be an inexpensive alternative. I have no experience with the CV 90/2.8 but i would not expect any softness from it.

I had been thinking a lot, but as said, for lansdcape stopped down I actually have a very good and light lens in that 3.5 Sonnar. Hm, the 11123 is the "fat" Summicron and would be a little heavyer than the R, with a shorter adapter on the A7. This might be worth a try, since I am a little sensitive regarding CA ( briefly had a Canon EF 85/1.8 that I felt was too much for what I wantto accept ). I would have tended to the v3 Cron but while I like light lenses going out with only the 28 and the 90 I can take a little more weight.
