Winedemonium Posted January 14, 2022 Share #1 Posted January 14, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) I know from friends and colleagues when it comes to the iPhone that there are some who don't upgrade for anything in particular, they simply upgrade so they have the latest one. (Meanwhile I'll stick with my X until it becomes slow enough to be annoying). Did you upgrade to the M11 because it is the latest one? Or, was there something particular in the new feature-set that made it worthwhile for you - the sensor, the processor/buffer, etc. Why are you upgrading, and from what M camera are you upgrading from? Or, if you are switching from say Q or SL (or some other system) what is it about the M11 per se that has made you switch? I'm curious to know what has made you pull the trigger. 1

Great question if I may say so. In theory, one can stay with the same camera, so far as it functioning, for eternity as the process and mechanism of a digital rangefinder is largely the same amongst all RF cameras so long as it outputs images how you want them. So it'll be interesting to see, aside from it being shiny and new, what makes people want to replace their current functioning cameras with this new one. Who knows, perhaps I might find a reason/ excuse to do so.
Stef63 Posted January 14, 2022 Share #3 Posted January 14, 2022 For me ISO is n°1. I have an M10 and later added an M10M. The Monochrom camera is the first camera that I ever used in Auto ISO. And I do it now without thinking. It opened a new world. It is such a joy to have ISO out of the equation Aperture-Speed-ISO; I just set Auto ISO to 2x focal length and my only focus is now on image composition and playing with aperture (which will also affect the image). From what I read an learned the ISO capabilities of the M11 are in M10M territory. So that is my n°1 reason. All the rest are benefits and little quirks (big issues for some here) that I can and will live with.
Howsol Posted January 14, 2022 Share #4 Posted January 14, 2022 For me, in order of importance: 1. Electronic shutter speed over 1/4000 (for Noctilux use in bright outdoors). 2. Better EVF resolution and better rear screen resolution (for focusing Noctilux) 3. Variable sensor for less noise in low light. 4. Lower Base Iso. 5. Maestro III is faster than II - 60 gives much more resolution than my M10-R IF I hold it steady enough (or use faster shutter speed) 6. Lighter is always better (mine is black) 7. Internal memory storage (cards like hard drives will fail we just don't know when) 8. programable function buttons. I WILL miss the base plate - it was a pain but yet it was always a pleasure too.

250swb Posted January 14, 2022 Share #6 Posted January 14, 2022 One thing you can be sure of, most people who buy the M11 will go out and retake all the same photographs they made with the M10, except they'll say they are 'better'. So it's probably only worth upgrading if there is a new creative idea that necessitates an upgrade, or you old camera has fallen apart, otherwise the barn door will still be the same barn door. 1
