Le Chef Posted January 30, 2023 Share #301 Posted January 30, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I’m still curious about which will come first: SL3 or Q3. Which camera needs replacing most, and which camera offers Leica the bigger growth potential?
Advertisement Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 Hi Le Chef, Take a look here Leica Q3 predictions / ruminations. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

If that was true and so many customers would have complained to Leica, then video would not be present in the Q2. The vast majority seems to be indifferent towards video. I‘d say the probability of the Q3 not having video is pretty low.

My vote would go to the Q3 as I think it has wider appeal, but it’s going to be an expensive upgrade for existing Q2 users. But then the Q2 was an expensive upgrade for Q users and it sells well (I think).

The only people that want features removed are the users of this specific forum. Go to any other forum (DPR, Fred Miranda, etc) and ask about feature removal and you’ll be eaten alive.
HeinzX Posted January 31, 2023 Share #305 Posted January 31, 2023 If you do not use features, simply do not use them. But do not request to remove them. Others may like to use them.

You can't please everyone. It's probably safe to say that Leica made a decision based upon how many might buy the camera with video vs how many might buy without. It's a numbers game and my belief (no facts to back it up) that the "I want a video option" crowd is bigger. I'm still using the original Q. When the 3 is released I'll look at what it is, not what I'd like it to be, and then make a decision to buy or not. The Q2 didn't add enough over my Q to make me want to buy. The Q3 might. And part of my eventual decision may be based upon the I-haven't-bought-a-camera-in-quite-a-while factor. 🙂

That would also explain why Leica seem to have spent that last 12 months or so offering deals on pricing and trade-ins on the SL2/S. The opposite seems true with the Q2: Reporter special editions added, Q2M added, and probably some gussied up version named for Coldplay I’ve forgotten about with a kombu seaweed wrapping around the case.

David_miller70 Posted February 4, 2023 Share #310 Posted February 4, 2023 After not enjoying my M10 and returning to Fuji I bought an xt-4 and a crop of really good lenses, 8-16, new 18 1.4, 18-55 2.8, new 33 1.4, new 56 1.2 and 90 f2. All good stuff. However, had a longing for a small fixed lens camera. Took a really long hard look at both the q and q2 before buying an x100v. But I’d buy a q3 if it had faster focussing, IBIS and no increase in mega pixels. Does n’t the q2 have enough already?

The SL2/S don't compete in the same space as the Q2 at all. The reason the SL2/S cameras are on sale is the SL3 is coming. They may also be clearing out the SL lens inventory before releasing a V2 of the SL lenses with faster AF motors. All the SL lenses are now out of stock on the Leica USA online store, and Leica Miami only has the Lux in stock. If the PDAF performance of the SL3 is on par with the new Lumix, then the SL3 will actually be competitive in its space in every way but affordability. Le Chef Posted February 5, 2023 Share #312 Posted February 5, 2023 I’m well aware that the SL2/S and Q2 don’t compete with each other. My point was about Leica’s business priorities and which successor was more important to launch first. My guess was the SL3 as the SL2/S lags significantly behind cameras like the Sony A7/V and even the LUMIX S5 II. So if you were looking at Leica launches in 2023/24, then SL3 would be first, followed by M11M, and then spring of 2024 a Q3. It’s a guess: I have no insider knowledge. soccerrick10 Posted February 5, 2023 Share #313 Posted February 5, 2023 My prediction is we will see the Q3 first, then closely followed by the M11M. Finally, later in the year we will see the SL3 or possibly early 2024. That is based on seeing the leaked images quite some time ago of the Q3. However, now that the M10M is discontinued and probably an easier release than a new Q3, those two might flip with the M11M coming very soon.

That was the type of 3D model that manufacturers use to test concepts with audiences. That model also put the “Play” and “Menu” buttons directly below the scoop-out for the thumb, which would mean those buttons would like get pressed frequently by mistake. It’s why currently the buttons are to the left of the LCD on the Q2 and SL2/S and were also located there on the CL. soccerrick10 Posted February 5, 2023 Share #315 Posted February 5, 2023 You are probably right - I mis-spoke saying “leaked images”. Still we haven’t seen any 3D modeled SL3’s floating around. So, I still feel the Q3 and M11M will be released before the SL3. Just my opinion…

I agree with this 100%. The only thing I might add to the list is a joystick.
