Though I like what @evikne is doing, personally I get tired of choosing ( though sometimes playing around can be fun). I therefore use basically two simulations only: one color, one b/w.

color: visual flow pastel (overcast for indoor lighting)

b/w: RNI ilford delta 100 (no additional grain)

I need to come back to my own words. For color I am set, but b/w I discovered some new - to me - presets, which makes me better skin tones. Still playing, but will keep you posted.

Beautiful! How do you expose with the Mastin Labs presets? I have them all I think (until 2023 at least) but colors come out "overcooked", not subtle like this

Thanks!  I don't do anything special to expose with Mastin. Pretty much every digital camera I'll underexpose anywhere from 1/3 - 1 full stop depending on lighting (matrix metering) so I have good highlight data.

With Mastin I always follow their 3 step workflow (pick preset, exposure, white balance to taste) as explained in their YouTube videos. I usually find Mastin too overcooked so I'll turn down the Amount slider and Contrast slider a bit. I definitely use their Strobe Soften and other tone related presets depending on lighting. If you haven't done so... definitely update any old Mastin presets (free download) so you get the additional tools like Strobe Soften.

I'll try again, because in their videos and on their website; their examples look super nice, but I rarely have images that suits the presets.

I also have the RNI filters and VSCO ones. The latter disappeared as they went fully app, but I found the original ones that has profiles for at least Leica Q and M240, they're my favorite.

I just used the same preset this morning!

Here are a couple shots with my M11-P and Voigt 75/1.9 Ultron (perfect for stealth portraits)

Agreed on your Mastin comment. It works great on certain images and I think a big part of that is the lighting. It can look really nice outdoors if you have good light, but that's about it. To me the odd thing about Mastin is how much they overuse the contrast slider. For example Portra 400 sets it to 79 and it seems to overcook my Leica files.

With RNI I follow the suggestions earlier in this thread (I think by Grahamc). Pretty much pick a RNI preset that looks good for your file and then crank the amount slider down to 75%. I almost never like RNI at 100%. I also use his curve presets when I do this.

If you are having trouble with Mastin I'd suggest checking out the Cobalt Imaging profiles (or just use RNI). These days I mostly use Cobalt's Portra 400 & Tri-X. They definitely seem to work better for me.

I actually have RNI but they are a bit too subtle almost for liking. I don't see the whole filmic style in them but I guess that subjective.

I do have the VSCO ones from the time were available as profiles and presets in lr and enjoy using these as they have profiles for Leica q and m240 but then not sl2.

Adobe Standard profile to the left, to better show the difference. No other adjustments to the right, other than assigning the profile and grain.

Taming the m10r sensor with grain and negative dehaze on this one.  Mids and highlights shifted to orange and shadows to blue. White balance 7400.

Great shot and very film-ish! So no presets for this picture?

May as well keep going. Here’s another beach one. Going for the 1980’s Baltic coast vibe.
