luigi bertolotti Posted September 6, 2007 Share #1 Posted September 6, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I do some A4 color prints in house, on a simple (but rather good) Hp All-in-One that accepts the Vivera Photo Cartridge; the process is RAW - Lightroom Develop - crop in LR in case of - export to PSD - print in PS. A maybe stupid question has came to my mind, and I don't like to throw away ink & paper to test : in PS I do not take care of the linear (lxh) dimensions of the picture : simply adapt it to A4 in the print session of PS; is there any reason for you can have something better if you resize dimensions to A4 in PS (clearly with proportions maintained) then print 1:1 ? Thanks in advance
Advertisement Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 Hi luigi bertolotti, Take a look here A4 printing - simple trivial question. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted September 6, 2007 Share #2 Posted September 6, 2007 As far as I know, it should not make a visible difference. You are relying on your printer software for colour management as well anyway, and as long as you are happy with the results, I would indeed not waste paper and ink on testing. M6J Posted September 6, 2007 Share #3 Posted September 6, 2007 Things are not so simple about printing, but as a general rule you should avoid any resampling when changing the picture's size. So, it is better to change the image size to something convenient for A4 with resampling unchecked. This will alter the resolution of course, but as long as it is between 200 and 450pi it is perfectly fine.

Just to be sure I have understood well (Round numbers for ease) : - I have a PSD file : "image size" declares 40 x 60 cm 200 dpi - I want to print it on a 20 x 30 cm sheet - I can simply make "print" - "fit to sheet dimension" ; OR BETTER, you say - Change the image size - no resampling - to 20 x 30 , resolution becomes 400 dpi - Print as it is, not any kind of "scaling" in the printing menus of PS. Right ?
M6J Posted September 6, 2007 Share #5 Posted September 6, 2007 Right! This also allows you to save only one file per image and use it later for -almost- any dimensions' print you want, just altering the resolution
