I am wondering if Leica designed a new AF system for the lens. Phase detect, if it is in the SL3, may have pushed Leica to improve/refine the AF motors in the lens. Just random thoughts... What do you think?

No idea, but af should - I would think - impact the other Crons more than the 21mm. On the other side, the other Crons are already out.

My feeling is more that the lens, or parts of it, has revisited the drawing table due to som sub-par optical properties, and/or of prohibitively high production costs (like exotic gass, etc.), and/or supply problems. I feel confident that we will see a 21mm Cron. Eventually. Personally, I see the triple 21, 35 and 75 (or 90) as wery handyuseful/versatile.

Maybe at this point Leica just wants to add to the excitement of the SL3 in 2024 with a trophy lens to tout the new resolution, sensor, and sharpness at the same time.
It’s not like people will make it the talk of the town if the sl3 is announced with a new rebranded Panasonic kit lens…

better to announce it with a new Leica SUPER-APO…

well I’ll be excited for that day to finally arrive.  That lens will appeal to a lot of different photographers.

Any feedback you can share with the community Robb regarding the 28 APO? Not a lot of reviews out there....

I haven’t returned yet from 7 days on the road in Montana, Washington, and Colorado.

the 28 apo is waiting for my return at my brother’s house and with anothe sl2 vertical grip.  As soon as I get back Friday night, I’ll start working it into the bag.

This trip I brought the 35 and 75 along with the 90-280

I missed the 50 in particular and really wished I brought it.  For some shots in tighter spaces I couldn’t move back far enough to use the 75.  But tons of portraits with the 75 this trip and it is just magical.

next trip out will be to Los Angeles for some projects and Kalispell Montana to photograph a new minor league baseball stadium.

I will take the leica 28, 50, 90 and the Hassy x2d for that short trip along with two drones.  I’ll add some 28 photos.  I believe it will act just like a wider 35.  So basically an epic wide lens.

I will likely be using the 28 a lot through the rest of the year so I should have some good examples to show and report my findings.
