Photojoejoe21 Posted December 12, 2021 Share #1 Posted December 12, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey all, I'm a photojournalist. Got a Q2 on recommendation from another PJ who has one for work and who swears by it. So first off, I do love this camera. It's helped put the joy back into making photos for me. Normally I use Sony equipment for work, and I purchased this camera more or less to manual focus and zone focus so it's kind of in the opposite direction as my normal equipment. And so far it's great, but there is one issue I'm really struggling with. I have discovered what feels like abnormal behavior with the camera when shooting at f16. What happens is, if you shoot at f16, then switch to a lower f-stop, change your shutter speed, then switch back to the previous settings for shooting at f16, the camera will stop the lens down to f16 where normally it only does that if you half-press the shutter. The result of seeing exposure preview with the lens stopped down at f16 makes it highly inaccurate for manual focusing because you have no idea where your plan of critical focus is at. Does anyone else have this issue? It might seem like an easy thing just to pop the aperture ring it back and forth but when you're in the thick of things making photographs you only get one shot at, like wedding photography, for example, it's really frustrating to deal with. Thanks for your input all! I'd be curious to see if you try to recreate the problem if your Q2 does this too. Here's a youtube link to what I'm talking about:

SrMi Posted December 12, 2021 Share #2 Posted December 12, 2021 With my Q2, I cannot reproduce the problem that you see. My Q2 always applies automatic aperture stop down (AASD), i.e., the aperture is wide open while focusing and stops down only when half or fully pressing the shutter button (f/16 to f/1.7). It would be best if you tried to reset the camera. If that does not fix it, you should send it for repair.
SrMi Posted December 13, 2021 Share #3 Posted December 13, 2021 As mentioned elsewhere, I was able to reproduce the issue. Unfortunately, I have not found a way to make it repeatable.
