elansprint72 Posted September 5, 2007 Share #2 Posted September 5, 2007 Very good use of the foliage to make a natural frame.
Chuckcars Posted September 6, 2007 Share #3 Posted September 6, 2007 Good idea. The tree branch, upper left, frame is a little overwhelming, distracting. I would have put the castle in the lower right third, more sky, less land and tree in upper left. I believe the mood of the scene is in the water and the sky. stuny Posted September 6, 2007 Share #4 Posted September 6, 2007 Chris - I like the overall balance and tree branch as you have them. In my opinion the photo is almost superb. However, I think the image needs a bit of punching up, which I might have overdone below:
andybarton Posted September 6, 2007 Share #5 Posted September 6, 2007 A little more contrast (check your levels, Chris), and a little less tree on the left and you have a winner here.
jaapv Posted September 6, 2007 Share #6 Posted September 6, 2007 I would lighten up the castle a bit in photoshop. It is the centrepiece and looks a bit too shadowy to me. Andy is right, black point and levels, maybe some curve adjustment. Also I would have a look at colourbalance, it seems to me to have a bit of green cast in the shadows. Another nice trick is to use USM at radius 50 and threshold 0 maybe 100-150% to bring out the detail. This enhances microcontrast. This picture is worth some work
ctb Posted September 7, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted September 7, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) OK, Jaap, Andy, Pete, Chuck & Stuny, thanks for your comments, I am no technophobe, but all these comments about USM's and curve adjustments and checking my levels are way over my head, PS elements is a mystery to me, but I have had another go, is this version any better. Chris In that case I strongly recommend the purchase of Photoshop Elements 5 and the Scott Kelby book to go with it. The VLux1 is a great camera, but the files do often require post-processing to get the best results. This shot proves you've got a good eye, and that deserves the best prints... If you post the original file on yousendit.com, some of us could play around with it, if you like.
