It should be simply a translucent serrated surface, with no "gunk" in it. ^^^^^^^^^^^ The question, then, is how and when did the gunk get there? If you are sure it was not there a week ago, something happened in that week. Someone spilled something (powder, or liquid that evaporated leaving a residue) on the camera in the past week, and cleaned it up, but did not notice the window. Or something similar. (Rather reminds me of a portable record player I had to clean up, after a dorm-mate vomited on it - but on a much smaller scale 😡 ). Hvae you tried wiping it off? Is it crusty, or loose dust?
