Thanks for the above replies!

This weekend I've done a fair bit of shooting with the leica and the 21mm lens. tbh, the lens is simply amazing on the m8...but I just can't get framing right, and I've no patience for looking into an external VF, as I cannot justify the price for one.  So the 21mm lens will be returned.

I'm about to sell some random gear I've been stocking up on, and will add an x100F with a 28mm wide angle conversion lens (to scratch my 28mm itch). I've also ordered a 35mm skopar f/2.5, along with a -3.0 diopter (for the m6 and 35mm lens). I think between this, and my a7iii, m6, m8, and 50mm summicron, I will be content, and will focus on just taking photos now!

It's crazy how GAS has literally consumed me this past 1 week lol. I have been totally OCD in trying to find the perfect set up.  I'm done now. My friends and family can have me back haha1

I'm going to make it my new years resolution not to acquire ANY more gear for 2022! Who is with me?

Late to the conversation, but I use a 25mm Voightlander finder with a Nikon 20mm on my M8, a tiny bit wider than a 28. I wear glasses so the view is almost perfect, a little wide but after a few photos you get used to it. I don't use wide angles much for closeups so parallax doesn't bother me. My one cu froma recent session can't remember if I centered the flower in the finder or not, since there is no RF connection I estimated the distance.

If you like your 21mm lens on your M8 (you don't say which 21mm), then it's worth persevering with learning to 'see' the 21mm field of view.

My 21mm Elmarit is used on my M8 90% of the time and I've never used an external finder. With practice, I'm able to visualise the 21mm field of view quite accurately.

If this won't work for you, the M8 has 24mm framelines. Would a 24mm lens suit you?

Camera Quest has a wide range of lenses and viewfinders.

Several years ago I bought their 15mm lens and 21mm finder, thinking that might be a useful combination, but I never got to try it - yet.  It is packed in my bag to try it out this coming week.

Call Camera Quest, and ask for Stephen Gandy - he's very knowledgeable and very helpful.
