Hi,

I'm new to the forum, and am looking for some advice. I need to purchase an external flashgun for my Digilux 3 and am not shure what would be the best one to go for. I've looked on the Metz website, but many of their solutions don't seem to be fully dedicated, and i have been warned there is still a voltage issue. I've also been told there is a Panasonic one (but cant seem to find reference to it, or to go for an Olympus one.

Can anyone offer me some advice or views?

Cheers to all:)

Welcome aboard Bruce,

I use an Olympus Metz 3202 M4 Module for my L1.

I would suggest that you get the M5 although it is not easy to find at the time I was in the market.

The issue with the M4 module is, when I change my zoom, both my 70MZ5 and 54MZ4i don't zoom together with the lens.

I can't hear the motor in the flash and the LCD on both flash don't change the focal length.

Although it does the job. I never have this issue with my Digilux 2 and M7.

I heard the Olympus is good.

Best

-Ron

There is a new Metz 58-AF1x

where

x=O for Olympus/Leica-D3/Panasonic-L1

x=C for Canon

x=N for Nikon

It has some great new features above the 54MZ-4i which it more or less replaces. best new feature is the USB connection for firmware upgrades. The only downside I can see it that it does not use SCA adapters, so loses the flexibility of being used by multiple different camera systems, as the shoe is decdiacted to either O, C or N when you make the choice at purchase time.

I use a 40MZ-3i on my D2 with the correct 3502-M4 for the D2, I bought the 3202-M5 for 40MZ3i on my D3/L1 but it does NOT fully co-operate with the camera.

DAMNIT.... i thought I was going to be able to fully share the 40MZ-3i between both D2 and D3.

The 40MZ-3i with 3202-M5 operates as a MANUAL only flash.......sigh

The 3202-M5 only works fully compliant with the 54MZ-4i

I had a similar problem with my 40MZ-3i which had worked wonderfuly on my Contax N1, but which wouldn't work properly on my Canon 20D!

I like the look of the 58AF-1 O, but I havent been able to find a UK dealer listing the Oly/Pan version yet. Everyone has the Nikon & Canon ones :( . Will just have to keep searching :), but thanks for the help & advice :D

The Panasonic flashes are rebranded Olympus and a bit more expensive.

Both the Olympus FL36 and FL50 work beautifully.

Try Ebay or Olympus Auctions on Ebay and you'll get a pretty fair deal.
