Thanks Stu and Allan,  I always loved the P38, it was not too  surprising it was the longest run production fighter  made by us.  Also my favorites were the P47 and the P51, Each of theses had their special abilities . For protection and making it home I would have to  give the P47  my vote based on the pilots who flew them. For sheer maneuverability and joy to fly the Mustang would get my vote. I had the chance to  sit in the back of one several years ago  at Chino where I had my Beechcraft  Sierra.
