Image upload quality on these forums - this needs to be addressed

I'm not sure if this is the proper forum, but here goes.

The uploaded image quality on these forums is atrocious. Images appear soft and compressed. Even clicking on an image to open in Lightbox still leaves a lot to be desired. I don't know why that is, but it needs to be addressed. It's way worse than on other websites (such as Fred Miranda, etc.) and makes me personally not want to upload and post any images here.

This forum is dedicated to large extent (obviously) to discussing how different lenses and cameras render. But that's very difficult to do, if uploaded images are rendered soft and in poor quality. Images appear as if my screen were covered in vaseline...

The powers that be here - you need to look into this issue.

Are you sure it is not the case? Just kidding. I don't post pics very often but i've never got this feeling i must say. You know that you can click to expand don't you. Just checked here. No vaseline but perhaps too much salt and pepper :D.

Agree about uploaded image quality. I've been a member here since 2007 & can't remember it ever being as poor as this. IQ does improve significantly when clicking on the image.  I always add a comment to my image posts asking people to click on the image for better resolution.

if one does a right click-open image in new tab/window, then one can see the actual quality..

The images we see in the threads are just upscaled, lo-res previews. Especially on a hi-res screen the images have to be upscaled a lot, and therefore they look blurry. Once we click on them, we se another image with higher resolution, which looks a lot better.

The problem is that most people don't bother to click on the previews, because they already have full width on the web page. People don't look at them as previews, and even when we know it, clicking on every picture in a thread is too cumbersome, so we drop it. It's sad, because the pictures had deserved to be seen at their best.
