Unfortunately it is a manual process. I tagged the Summicron-35 images in the camera. When I am home I run a bash script to get the information into the Exif data.

#!/bin/bash
#New:
LModel_New="Summicron-M 1:2/35 ASPH"
LMake_New="Leica Camera AG"
LInfo_New="35mm f/2"
MaxAp_New="2.0"
#LLensTypeMake="Leica-M" #does not work
LLensType="Fixed Focal Length"
LLensAttached="Yes"
LLens="35.0mm"
LminFocalLength="35"
LmaxFocalLength="35"

for thefile in *RW2; do
    exiftool -q -q -m -LensModel="$LModel_New" $myfile \
    -LensMake="$LMake_New" $thefile \
    -LensType="$LModel_New" $thefile \
    -LensInfo="$LInfo_New" $thefile -MaxApertureValue="$MaxAp_New" $thefile  "-FileModifyDate<DateTimeOriginal" "-FileModifyDate<CreateDate" $thefile \
    -FLength="$LLens" \
    -FocalLength="$LLens" -Lens="$LLens" -minFocalLength="$LminFocalLength" -maxFocalLength="$LmaxFocalLength" $thefile
done

Sure it's Linux. I suppose LR or Capture One can do similar things with simple mouse clicks.

How are things with the new camera, S5 and L-mount?

To me that is rocket science (not really, but I'm not into it. As a student I made a chess program in LISP (AI) and it was good in solving mate in two moves . . .) My understanding what you do, is to drop the files on the icon with this script - and presto, it is tagged; and you have a line-up of such scripts on your desktop, one for each lens.

Today the weather was better so I had a walk outside. The M-Rokkor 28mm performs exceptionally good (forget the haze), the 40mm M-R has problems in the corners. The Summicron 50 V5 was superb. The Summicron 35mm V4 also, sometimes with a few difficulties.

Summicron 50mm @ F2 on S5

Ah yes, it is manual focus, while the shutter is really trigger-happy.

The M-Rokkor 28mm on the S5. Look at the foreground and corners. Great, this is the signature of this lens.

And here  a lens that performs bad; if I am not mistaken,

M-Rokkor 40mm on S5 - even though that does a great job on the M240.

  • Maybe it recently dropped and an element moved? Time for a CLA then. It has some 'Schneideritis' haze-spots too since a year.
  • Or is this typically "the steep incidence angle of the light due to the non-telecentric design" that destroys the corners? It looks like a very cheapish helios lens now in the corners.

Took a walk with the S1R + Voigtländer VM Nokton 35mm 1.2 ASPH. II today. Colours, corners and sharpness seem to be no problem for this lens.

The camera has one quirk: The shutter is a hair-trigger You only have to think "shoot" and the image has  been taken. I checked with the dealer, and this seems to be normal Actually, I like it, but if you want to prefocus  half-press is near-impossible. The solution is to set the camera to release on focus and use the button AF-on under your thumb, which actually works quite well. With manual lenses the camera is made extremely responsive with this

I tested the ‘silent mode’. It is total stealth. Indeed a thought in the - a slight tremor will help - and a capture is done.
Half-press normally gives a beep, not now even. As trigger happy as I am, I have to retink it. But it is nice. I made the frontside Fn knob like the Leica. It helps me a lot.

The Zeiss Sonnar 1.5 ZM is one of my favourite lenses. So I was really curious how the lens would perform with the S1R.
