Crem Posted October 11, 2021 Share #1 Â Posted October 11, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just received an email from BH Photo (big USA retailer) that the M10-P (black chrome) is now discontinued. This is the first I've heard of this. Any idea if it's true?
Advertisement Posted October 11, 2021 Posted October 11, 2021 Hi Crem, Take a look here M10-P discontinued?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
RMF Posted October 11, 2021 Share #2  Posted October 11, 2021 (edited) Their website does show it as discontinued as well.  Sad news as it’s such a perfect camera for my use.     . Edited October 11, 2021 by RMF
Leicaiste Posted October 11, 2021 Share #3  Posted October 11, 2021 The M11 is coming, that’s all.
Al Brown Posted October 11, 2021 Share #4 Â Posted October 11, 2021 Someone from Leica Shop should also confirm this (they are 100% Wetzlar owned).

tobey bilek Posted October 11, 2021 Share #6 Â Posted October 11, 2021 I ordered a chrome M10P to replace my corroded M9 on the exchange program. Â Waited 4 months and never ever got a promise. Â Leica Miami gave me M10R from stock (not free). So I guess they are out of black now.

When I was in Wetzlar on the first weekend of September this year to attend a meeting of Leica friends, I wanted to rent an M10P from Leica directly at their premises, but was told they are no longer available. Took an M10R instead, and was very pleased. Great camera! The M11 will be launched November 11, 2021, so no wonder the M10P is discontinued. Herr Barnack Posted October 12, 2021 Share #9 Â Posted October 12, 2021 Hopefully the black paint M10R will become available in the U.S. before it is also discontinued.

I'm sure they could if they cared to, but with subsequent intros after the lengthy M10 wait, Leica seems to have preferred to hold release until there's sufficient... whatever that means... supply. This undoubtedly was the case with the M10-R.  Makes little sense to annoy the customer base by announcing in Nov. and delivering to the end of the waitlist the better part of a year later.

I decided to just buy new. I never bought used before and bingo. Issues. And so the one new now is the 10-R and I went all out and got the most expensive of course. Might as well.  now I see the new sensor blows away the m10 24mp one. I was enjoying the rangefinder experience. I also liked the raw files from the lenses. Not over processed like Fuji jpegs. However, I didn’t feel that for all the money I paid I was getting really a huge jump in overall IQ. My Fuji 56f1.2 with the 26MP XPro3 gave some amazing results and I couldn’t see how my M10-P was so much better being such an expensive full frame camera.  well… NOW I see it. The files from the 10-R really make the files from the M10 24MP sensor look dated. APS-C Fuji files are just as good as the M10 at this point.  it is definitely time to retire all the 24MP Leica cameras. Sorry, it’s not time to retire the 24MP models. Whether it’s the SL2-S or the M10-P, both are great cameras and available on the Leica US site.

grahamc Posted October 14, 2021 Share #15  Posted October 14, 2021 One of the things I love about my 10-D is the size of the files - quick to transfer and work on versus my my Sony A7RIV for example, which is 61MP .  Actually very noticeable in terms of transfer time and also space taken up on drives, etc etc I have no doubt the 10R , and future Leicas, have/will have amazing IQ from the larger files - but I also really enjoy this aspect of my current Leica camera. Granted, I expect that (if rumoured specs are true) the 11 onwards will have a choice of file sizes you shoot with .  But I have absolutely no issue with what I'm shooting with, especially as it's the D, which may not come around again - let's see

Although I don't agree however that the latest fuji cropped sensor (I have one) holds a candle to the M10 though .  The files lack depth and the camera feels like toy in comparison Edited October 14, 2021 by grahamc

The raw I was getting from the pro 3 using the 56f1.2 were amazing. It felt like an improvement going full frame with the 10-P but it wasn’t the monumental change I thought for what I was paying. That changed with the 10-R. True I can understand that for sure it must be great

My take is that Leica will present the M11 on November 11, but that it may be available only next year, once they have sourced enough parts. In any case, the M11 is just an evolution of the M10R, not an entirely new camera.
