This is interesting! What is the main advantage for shooting like this? I suppose the negatives turn out really thin and grainy this way.

No, the opposite. By overexposing and underdeveloping, a bit, you soften the contrast while retaining the detail, depending on which developer you use, such as Ilford Perceptol.

My favorite is the 35mm Summicron version 4 (11310).  Just a fantastic lens, especially in film.

That's a great lens in general and for use on an M6. I also like it on digital. The other 35mm Cron version are good, too. For film, even an 35mm Cron ASPH will render well, too (though I find it a little "clinical" on digital Ms).

What about the mighty Voigtlander 35/1.4 II? Unusual nobody mentioned yet

Then you choose the coated: SC or MC

That's also a nice and inexpensive option, should work really nice with film. Although I decided I will not buy non Leica lenses this one is really tempting.. especially the SC.

Did you try or own one?

Well this makes way more sense. I somehow understood the post wrong way around😅

I owned it for a few months. Then I had the chance to exchange it for another lens (I was curious to try lens B). Now, I will keep lens B, and as soon as I can, I will rebuy the Nokton. IMHO, it's a must-have. There are people here comparing it with the 35 Lux pre asph., people using it with M10M. Film people (and Digital also) loves it a lot. My copy (and the next to buy) will be MC. I can't speak about SC character. But browse the forum. There are plenty of threads talking about the O&O Nokton.

In a few words, is sharp at some f/stops and glowy (in a good way, at least for me) wide open. And even at 1.4, it's very sharp in the center. Highly recommend it.

I  own a 35 Summicron asph. v1, and it's now permanently attached to my M10. The 35/2.8 ZM is wow, outstanding IQ. The CV 35/2 Ultron II, 35 Summarit... There is an abundance of options.

🙂

I could do, but too lazy for that few millimeters difference 😌.

You may see that the compactness is not all that matter.

What model is the one on the back? Do you have the summarit with 46mm filter thread?

M-Hexanon 2/35 (E46 ! ) big 35mm one, but very good lens.

I have Summarit-M 2.5/35 so E39 filter to use my E39 filters and to match my other E39 lenses when I combine a set.

For example I use E39 filters with Monochrom, so the set 35/50/90 LTM A36 lenses here has adapter for E 39 filter SOOGZ

I happen to use other 35mm also, like here,

another set for "fun"where we can see the very small Summaron 3.5/3.5cm beside M-Hexanon 2/35 we talked about at right

It seems quite nice the summaron 3.5. How it render? How contrast is it, and It has distortion?

Summaron 3.5/3.5cm is a very good lens, of low contrast type when used wide open, some "Leica glow" ( I like it with some subjects, no other lens is so lovely in such small package )

on M10,here

Great, do you think I can achieve these kind of soft pics with these tonalities?

Of course you can, overexpose, and/or use vaseline on filter or just put in front soft filter.

This kind of soft rendering can be done by any lens 🙂 with "knowledge" and know how.

Choose the film with care, and that will do.

Take into account that most LTM Leitz lenses focus to 1m, while M lenses go to 70cm with most ( ...80cm with Summarit-M 35mm, same as Summicron-C 40mm ).

Permanently attached to my M7 is the Minolta Rokkor 40/2, which I had filed to bring the 35mm frame lines. Couldn't be happier; its tiny, cheap, has a focus tab, and renders nicely. Even if I would win the lottery, I would find it hard to justify buying a cron or a lux. Sure, someday this will happen, I flirt with the idea daily, but as said, it's just sooo difficult to justify.

I have the Summicron 40mm equivalent semi glued to my M6!  I also have a 35mm Summicron ASPH v2, but most of the time I leave that in my M10-P & keep the 40mm on the M6.

Always been happy with the results.
