Forgive me, doubtless this subject has been done to death elsewhere on different threads, but I wondered if any fellow mk1 Monochrom (or non-users, for that matter) could help me out with a quick recommendation?

I've been using the same Sandisk 16GB memory card in my mk1 Monochrom since I got the camera in 2012. I want to get a back-up card or two. What's a good reliable card for this camera? I'd like to go to a larger size than 16GB, but I know the M9 platform is notoriously picky about the SD cards.

Thanks, in advance, for anyone's knowledge on this.

Hello Colin.

I don't think so that Monochrom (MM1 or M246) is picky about SD cards.

As long time user, I just have never seen any trouble, with some precautions.

I don't use too big card (8-16GB mainly) from reputable brands, Kingston, Sandisk, PNY, Samsung, etc.

When I can format in the camera, the card is good for use for years, I format time to time in computer when I copy the files.

In doubt, I discard the cards.

Now I even have some microSD cards in PNY SD adapters, work well.

Thanks very much for your reply. I looked for 16GB cards, and they seem pretty hard to get now. Smallest I could see was 32GB. Was sort of wondering if the camera could handle 32GB, or even 64GB..

My current card is also San Disk Ultra SDHC 16GB 80 MB/s.  No problems, so I found some at a Leica dealer for back-up.

Cheers, Jeff. I think I need to find myself some 16GB cards. They seem rare now.

Yes, I was fortunate.  If you lived on this side of the pond, I'd give you a recommendation (or send you one of mine).  Some savvy dealers keep them around, in private....might be worth some calls...that's how I found some.

Edit… I see that B&H now has some in stock, so all hope not lost.

Well there's definitely less around as I think I bought them in December for less than £5 ($7) each (or maybe the other Jeff needs to by more rocket fuel...)

Thanks for all your kind advice, guys. Might tentatively try a 32GB card then, whilst those are still readily available

Best wishes, all

Hi Colin.

I don't think you should have any trepidation whatsoever about using 32Gb cards; I've been using them (successfully!) since 2014 with M8.2; M9; M9-P; M Monochrom and M-D Typ-262 cameras and have never had a moment's grief. Usually Sandisk. Faster write-speed the better IMX....

Thanks, Philip. That's both very helpful, and reassuring. Cheers!
