Cleaning Lenses -- I just discovered that my lenses have a back end!

So, I was getting ready for a shoot this weekend and cleaned the lenses I planned to use.  For no particular reason, I looked at the back end of one of the lenses and saw dark dust on it.  I then cleaned the back of all of my lenses; each was dirty on the back end.

I know this surface is part of the optical system and wonder why I never noticed these spots in the image.  I am thinking that this end of the lens is not in focus and therefore the spots are not sharp.

Anyway, I'm reformed, now.

Regards to all, Bill
