This is a millennium project that linked the Lancaster Canal with the tidal River Ribble, near Preston, via a small stream.

The stream, Savick Brook, was deepened and widened (a bit) to provide a link between the Lancaster Canal and the rest of the network for the first time ever. There are dozens of YouTube videos which show what the experience of making this journey is like.

This is the work of art that adorns the top lock of the staircase that raises the boats from the brook to the canal - all a bit bonkers really.
